Product reviewed: Krups 10-Speed Digital Hand Mixer
Before stand mixers were a staple in American kitchens, many turned to an electric hand mixer to take some of the physical labor out of the baking equation. Personally, baking is not my forte, and I am constantly looking for products to make it easier and less scary for me — not to mention helping the end product come out the way the picture looks. I have used several hand mixers in my cooking lifetime, many of which were from the ’80s and ’90s, so I jumped at the opportunity to try out a new state-of-the-art 21st century electric hand mixer! If a non-baker like me can use this mixer appropriately and make incredible raspberry macarons, anyone can!
The Krups 10-Speed Digital Hand Mixer exceeded my expectations of what an electric hand mixer can be. It comes with its own storage container and does not take up much space in a cabinet — which is convenient for those living in small apartments or with an already full kitchen. Its attachments fit in the storage container, which decreases the chances of losing pieces. It comes with two stainless steel beaters that have rubberized bottoms, so no more metal-on-metal mixing. It also comes with two dough hooks and one whisk. The dough hooks alone make this an awesome option for someone who doesn’t have the countertop or storage space for a stand mixer!
I used the Krups mixer to make one of the hardest baking recipes I’ve ever made: macarons. And not just any macarons, but ones where I had to beat the eggs for 15-plus minutes. Holding the hand mixer for that long, my arm did start to get quite tired as the mixer is heavy-duty, but luckily it comes with a “pause” button, and when I was feeling weak I used that to pause and briefly stretch or switch hands before hitting the same button again and resuming. This was hugely convenient!
The mixer has 10 speeds, and 10 is very fast. If you need to work a bit harder or faster in any part of your recipe, the mixer comes with a turbo speed as well, and transitions from regular to turbo and back down without splattering. Lastly, it has a timer, so if your recipe indicates that batter should be mixed for a specific number of minutes, you can program this into the mixer and not lose track.
I am highly impressed with the Krups 10-Speed Digital Hand Mixer, and it’s not intimidating to use even as an inexperienced baker. I would recommend this product to a baker of any skill level, but especially those who are tight on kitchen space.
