Non-Dairy Milk Alternatives

Almond Milk
This is probably one of the most popular non-dairy alternatives in recent years. It comes in original, vanilla (sweetened and unsweetened), and even chocolate! Almond milk has significantly fewer calories, fat and carbohydrates than dairy milk. Additionally, it is high in calcium, vitamin D and vitamin E. Many people enjoy almond milk because it does not contain soy, another common allergen.

Coconut Milk
Coconut milk is definitely gaining popularity. It is very similar to almond milk, but some find the taste to be much better and the texture creamier. Although it contains saturated fat, the saturated fats in coconut milk are actually beneficial. Yes, there is such thing as “good saturated fats.” Coconut oil is made of MCTs, or medium-chain triglycerides, that provide countless benefits to your health.

Rice Milk
Many people also prefer the taste of rice milk. It is lighter and sweeter in flavor, and less creamy than almond milk or regular cow’s milk. This definitely suits some people better!

Hemp Milk
Hemp milk is pretty uncommon. What many people don’t know is that it’s delicious! Not only does it taste good, but hemp seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s boost immune function, keep cholesterol in check, and help lower blood pressure.

Those who cannot have dairy, or simply do not want to drink cow’s milk, have so many alternatives. You just have to find the one you like best. Personally, I love an almond milk-coconut milk blend! It’s the perfect combination and tastes amazing.
