Cooking with cast iron can be tricky, especially for beginners. I own a cast-iron skillet, but I don’t use it often because it’s very heavy and doesn’t always cook foods the way I like. I wanted to try the Marquette Castings No. 10.5 Skillet to give cast-iron cookware another try, especially because of the benefits this cookware provides.

The skillet is made with a unique casting method for higher quality. Upon opening the package, I noticed and loved the pan’s pretty brown color. Previously, I had only ever seen black cast-iron skillets. I also received a USA Made Leather Handle Cover, which adds sophistication to the already sleek pan.

One noticeable feature of this skillet is that it’s extremely lightweight, which is great because starting a meal on the burner and transferring it to the oven doesn’t turn into a workout! The handmade leather handle cover is great for stylish cooking and works amazingly in place of a hot pad. Be sure to remove the handle cover before placing the skillet in the oven. Also, wait about five minutes before placing the leather handle on the skillet after removing it from the oven.

I used this skillet to make stir-fry, crispy salmon, juicy seared burgers, roasted cauliflower and a gluten-free peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. I absolutely love the pan’s versatility. And did I mention it’s lightweight? I’m sure I did, but it’s worth mentioning again.

Using cast-iron cookware allows for more even cooking due to its ability to hold heat. Plus, it’s a good way to increase iron intake. Iron deficiency can cause fatigue and weakness and, if severe, can be life-threatening.

Something to remember is that cast iron is not nonstick. Oiling the pan adequately can make cleanup easier and prolong the life of the skillet. To clean the pan, use a non-abrasive sponge and salt to remove any residue from cooked food, then rinse with hot water. Dry the skillet with a clean dish towel, then place it over medium heat to ensure all the water has evaporated. Lastly, wipe a thin coat of oil inside and along the outside of the skillet to protect it during storage.

The Marquette Castings No. 10.5 Skillet and USA Made Leather Handle Cover are great additions to any kitchen.Redefining Cast-Iron Cooking - They add style and functionality to a high-quality kitchen staple that can be used for years to come.
