The Sack Lunch Gets a Makeover

Eco Vessel Smash Box Double Compartment Lunch Box

The Smash Box Double Compartment Lunch Box by Eco Vessel arrived at the beginning of the school year and it couldn’t have arrived at a better time.  A silicone-based, six-cup food container, this product is a great tool for packing a school lunch that captures all of the MyPlate food groups.

As a mom, here’s what I loved: it’s dishwasher-safe, it’s leak-resistant and it’s easy for my kids to use.

As a registered dietitian, I had even more reasons to love the Smash Box. It has enough room to include all of those MyPlate food groups into a lunch.

EcoVessel In UseMy daughter was so excited to use it, she wanted to take it to school immediately. Demonstrating how it shrinks to less than half the size when it’s empty, she said, “It’s really cool because I liked how I could pop it back down to fit back into my backpack when I was done with it.”‘

We filled it with her favorite meal she created herself: Taco Rice Bowls. A whole-wheat tortilla filled with lean ground beef mixed with whole grain brown rice and taco seasoning, topped with shredded lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. There’s even room for fruit to complete the meal.

And there’s one more bonus to the Smash Box: No more carrying around silverware that doesn’t fit into the container or forgetting to bring a spoon in the first place! The all-inclusive utensil (fork, knife and spoon) has its own special storage space right on the lid of the container.

I can see this product helping anyone who packs a meal for work, college students who don’t have a lot of storage space, and even older adults as the container is easy to open and close.
