APP REVIEW: Eating Out G-Free

By Hachette Book Group, Inc.

RATING: 4 Stars

SYNOPSIS
Television personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck shares her experiences about living gluten-free. This app offers tips on how to find a gluten-free menu, create a gluten-free shopping list, lists of foods to avoid and how to stay gluten-free while dining away from the home. This app is a supplemental material to her book, The G-Free Diet.

Pros

  • Provides useful tips on how to order gluten-free at a restaurant, such as researching the restaurant beforehand and how to be specific when communicating with staff
  • Customizable for specific allergy restrictions, such as gluten intolerance or other food allergens. A feature allows the user to type a list of his or her specific restrictions to have at his or her fingertips at any table.

Cons

  • Does not include local restaurants or a GPS feature to find nearby gluten-free menus, just a list of a few chain restaurants
  • Does not suggest what to order, but gives descriptions that may be on a menu and what to avoid

BOTTOM LINE
This app may be basic and helpful for beginners, looking for foods to avoid and restaurant ordering tips and locations. It lacks suggestions on what to eat and may leave users feeling lost.
